Refuse To Live Your Life Without Art, Poetry And Music

Q: Why should an Internet course in Emotional Intelligenceinclude art, poetry and music? A: Because EQ involvesunderstanding and being able to express your emotions, and art,poetry and music are the most suitable vehicles for this. Art expresses emotions without words, and poetry, is, as someonesaid, "feelings through a crack pipe." While I haven'texperienced anything through a crack pipe, I get the analogy,which is what poems, with their metaphors and analogies, are allabout. It could also be said that good poetry “disturbs.” Music also goes where words can’t. "Music is," said Ludwig vanBeethoven, the dominant figure between the Classical andRomantic eras, who composed his Ninth Symphony when totallydeaf, “the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life.”

MMK goes on with Plate Mill 5000
[Steelonthenet.com] Magnitogorsk, Russia; 24 Nov 2008 - MMK continues with its major investment project, Plate Mill 5000. According to MMK Chairman Victor Rashnikov, in order to finalize the construction it is planned to borrow funds from Russian banks and commission the plate mill in 2009. Russian companies are interested in completion of the project. MMK Vice president for sales Vladimir Shmakov said that the company's management is justified to state that the production of the plate mill will enjoy demand of the Russian market in the first line. The mill is set to produce plates up to 4800 mm wide with X120 strength characteristics for oil and gas industries, shipbuilding, machinery building and construction of bridges. 'Agreements with TMK and Chelyabinsk Pipe Mill (ChTPZ) to take off our products are in place, as well as there is an agreement on cooperation with Gazprom regarding production of large-diameter pipes', said Mr. Shmakov to journalists. Serious steps are bound to be taken to develop ship building in Russia; the first shipbuilding company has been created. A comprehensive programme has been worked out to develop bridge building. This somehow both contains the intense emotion, and alsoexpresses it. It’s one of those paradoxical things. We often turn to poetry at major transitions in our life – whenwe fall in love, or out of love, or lose our love. Poetry seemsthe best vehicle, with it’s eloquence, it’s containment, it’sability to distill. The way the death of your child or the faceof your beloved make you feel is beyond words, and so, in aparadoxical way, is poetry. When my son died some years ago, at the age of 21,I startedwriting poetry, as I have at every turning point in my life. Thewords of Alfred Lord Tennyson reverberated in my mind: But for the unquiet heart and brain A use in measured languagelies; The sad mechanic exercise, Like dull narcoties numbingpain. Tennyson’s poem, “In Memoriam,” ends with the famous lines: ’Tis better to have loved and lost, Than never to have loved atall,” which is what every parent struggling with the loss of achild must eventually reconcile.
